Program Purpose
African American students are only awarded three percent of all Computer Science & Engineering related degrees. The BDPA HSCC program is standing in that gap and has become a pipeline for future Computer Science & Engineering students.
The High School Computer Competition (HSCC) was started by Dr. Jessie Bemley in 1982 to help influence students from underserved communities to pursue careers in Information Technology.
We are designed to introduce Middle School and High School Students to concepts of Information Technology and Business Acumen. Students will have the opportunity to participate in 3-hour training sessions each Saturday from February to May to learn in-depth topics such as:

Registration is REQUIRED this year.
Students will benefit better from this seminar if they bring thier own laptop to the training classes.
Class times will be every Saturday unless CMS is out of school on Monday or Friday.
$50 Fee covers all training sessions.

HSCC Competition Student Evaluation
The way we select students for the competition team is through evaluating their performance. We have created a list of seven criteria that will be given a score. These scores determine which students are prepared for the national competition.

2009 BDPA Charlotte HSCC Team

HSCC Students from Across the United States in Raleigh, NC at 2009 BDPA High School Computer Competition
Last year’s, National competition was held at the Marriott Hotel & Conventin Center in Raleigh, North Carolina at the BDPA National Conference. The competition team representing BDPA Charlotte comprised five students. Competition teams continue to enjoy all expense paid trips to the National BDPA Technology Conference. All students were allowed to participate in the Student Youth Technology Camp and other planned student activities. The competition team will compete with other chapter teams throughout the United States developing a web application, oral and written competition. The top five teams won
college scholarships totalling $5,000, computer hardware and advanced gaming software.
